Comet golfers competed, Friday in the Logansport Sectional at Dykeman Municipal Golf Course. The Comets came up short and finished 9th out of 12 teams but shot a season low 370 which showed the progress the team had made. Logansport won the sectional with a 303, Twin Lakes followed with a 316, and the Panthers of Pioneer advanced to regional with a 318. Owen Chapman was the star of the day for the Comets as he competed in a 1-hole playoff due to 3 players tying with a 77. Chapman came up short, but the Comet team was so excited to be in that position. In Sectional format, the top 3 teams advance and then the top 3 individuals that are not a part of those 3 teams. The sophomore, Chapman, secured his name amongst the greatest players to ever play at Caston with that round of 77. Reed Sommers shot a 94, Gage Thomas a 96, and Drew Williams shot a 103. Coach Rentschler commented after the round, "That is one of the most exciting situations a golfer could be put in. Owen had a legit chance to advance to regional with that 77 and it just wasn't meant to be today. I'm so proud of him. He will continue to get better this off-season, and he will give it another solid run next season. I mean the kid got 6th place, that's not too bad for a sophomore. I think he will own the Sectional by the time he is a senior. It was really fun to see the excitement of the playoff and be able to experience that dramatic finish with so many fans, family, and friends in the gallery. This was a big day for Comet golf. I don't know the last time we shot that low as a team so I'm very proud. I'm very blessed with a great group. For any person to break 80, that is a feat that less than 5% of golfers achieve. For him to do that in his second season under all the pressure today, I'm very proud of him. I wish we could have gotten it done for his parents and family today, but we will get it done and it will be very rewarding when we pull it off."
